So what’s all the fuss about coconut oil?
In order to lose or maintain a healthy weight, we need to stick to a healthy eating regime. This means avoiding the junk food aisle in the supermarket tempting us with foods containing empty calories. How do we do this? By ensuring our bodies are nourished with healthy satiating fats, the best of which is….you guessed it…coconut oil!
How does coconut oil help weight loss?
The medium chain saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil boost metabolism for instant energy and do not end up as stored body fats. So by increasing your energy output, the chances of you burning more fat and losing weight are higher. Obesity is a huge problem across the world, but countries (such as those in the South Pacific) that use a lot of coconut oil in their diets are among the lowest obesity rates and have far fewer cases of heart disease.
Coconut oil is also known to reduce hunger, causing you to eat less. Studies show that consuming coconut oil in the morning significantly reduces hunger pangs in the late morning and afternoon when we have a tendency to reach for the snack jar.
How do I use coconut oil in my diet?
Incorporating coconut oil into your daily eating plan is not difficult to do as it is such a versatile food. Try cooking eggs, meats, vegetables in a small amount of coconut oil, instead of the usual butter, olive oil or vegetable oils. Snack on popcorn popped in coconut oil. You can also add it over salads as a dressing, to your smoothies, and even a few teaspoons to your coffee!
